“I just can’t seem to do well no matter how hard I work.” If you do well in all other areas except language, or aren’t reaching your full potential, or if a low grade in language is keeping you from the Honor Roll or limiting your choice of college, we can help. If you are a graduate student facing a modern or classical language reading requirement, we can help you pass the test. “I’m incapable of learning Spanish.” (or French) Many different factors such as your age, amount of exposure time, interest, motivation, your current teacher’s instructional style, or amount of individual attention you receive, all affect how much you learn or even whether you learn at all. We can help you to learn in a way that works for you.
“I’m doing O.K. right now.” “O.K.” is no longer good enough in today’s competitive world. If you are getting less than an “A” in foreign languages, you run the risk of not getting into a top college or graduate school. We can help you get from “O.K.” to “excellent”. We’ll also help you prepare for the A.P. exam or SAT II in Spanish or Latin. “I need an advanced level or Latin or Spanish, but my school can’t offer the course due to budget cuts or low enrollment.” We can design and teach an advanced Spanish or Latin program and help you negotiate with your school to receive academic credit on your college transcript.
We can help you to understand your teacher’s expectations and then help you to meet the expectations. We’ll provide you with critical information on the research that should inform performance standards in today’s school-based second language programs. You learn best when you know exactly what is expected. We can help you to figure out what’s expected and then help you meet those expectations.
“I need to supervise Spanish-speaking employees, correspond in Spanish, provide Spanish language training to my employees, or have another career-related need to acquire skills in Spanish.” If you have tried taking a traditional course, or tried one of the many commercially produced Spanish learning programs, and still can’t function satisfactorily in Spanish, you can benefit from our tutoring services. We help you make sense of off-the-shelf learning materials. Alternately, we can design and teach an individual or small-group Spanish program that will focus on the specific communicative needs that we collaboratively identify as critical to your success or that of your business.
We’ll prepare or review for linguistic and cultural authenticity written material in English or a language other than English used in an academic or corporate setting or any written material ranging from a term paper to a doctoral thesis.
